Green to the extreme
Purato is Sicilian through and through, showing huge respect for the land and a great love of the island.
This is why it is our philosophy to make exactly what Mother Nature has given us, with nothing added and nothing taken away.
Purato is a pure reflection of the island of Sicily: the maximum expression of nature, the beauty of the rugged Sicilian landscapes, the passion and devotion to sustainability in every aspect of production results in authentic wines with purity of expression. In other words, Purato is PURE SICILY!
Conditions for growing vines simply could not be better: the hot Sicilian sun, the cool sea breezes that mitigate the heat, the fertile soil which is rich in minerals and nutrients. The Terra Rossa consists of a layer of light red, sandy loam on a limestone base, which is good at retaining water. These factors all combine to bring the grapes to the perfect levels of ripeness and concentration.
Purato has been certified organic since 2009 by the Bioagricert certification body.
We strongly believe that every human intervention in the vineyards must take into account the delicate balance of the characteristics of the vines and the unique qualities of the soil. Organic gives us the opportunity to work for the future and to create wines that are truly in harmony with nature.
Purato has been 100% vegan-friendly since 2015 – it is simply not necessary to use animal derived products during the vinification process, so we don’t!
Purato has been certified Carbon Neutral since 2016. CO2 emissions are one of the most complex topics, which has the greatest impact of the climate and the environment as a whole. This is why we decided to take action and to achieve CARBON NEUTRAL certification for Purato.
We take responsibility for our impact on the environment. And to quantify our emissions, we have chosen an international partner: Natural Capital Partners www.naturalcapitalpartner.com.
To offset our CO2 emissions through Natural Capital Partners, we have invested in energy production projects using renewable and sustainable sources.
The journey in order to obtain this certification has been long, complicated and expensive: we had to quantify our CO2 emissions in a scientific manner. We have monitored the emissions and using a systematic approach have managed to reduce them. Nothing is left to chance. From 2016 to 2020, we have compensated for more than 2,650 tons of CO2.
100% SUSTAINABLE PROCESS
PURATO IS NOT ONLY ORGANIC, VEGAN-FRIENDLY AND CARBON-NEUTRAL.
It is also completely sustainable in every aspect of production, from the cultivation of grapes, to winemaking, to bottling, to every aspect of packaging.
Our labels are made with cardboard which is certified “FSC Mix” which supports the development of responsible forestry globally. The wood used to produce the cellulose for our labels comes exclusively from FSC certified forests and therefore from completely renewable sources or from recycled materials.
Our bottles are made from at least 80% recycled glass. The boxes are made from 100% recycled paper.
The entire production process is 100% sustainable.
ZERO EMISSIONS.
For years now, Purato has had zero CO2 emissions throughout the entire production process, from the vineyards to the bottle on the shelf.
