Abruzzo

Undiscovered treasures

ABRUZZO

Undiscovered treasures.

Located in the central southern part of the Italian peninsula, the Abruzzo region extends from the heart of the Apennines, through a wild, mountainous area, finishing at the Adriatic Sea.

In the last 40-50 years, Abruzzo viticulture has very gradually abandoned the most difficult production areas, concentrating on the best sites on the coastal hills.  Abruzzo wines are now a force to be reckoned with!

MONTEPULCIANO D’ABRUZZO AND PECORINO

Montepulciano is the most widely grown grape variety of the area and the grape of the region’s well-known DOC, Montepulciano d’Abruzzo.

Pecorino is the principal white grape variety, savoury, fresh and fragrant, yet with a great depth of character.  Pecorino, which was facing oblivion 20 years ago, has made a forceful comeback over the last few years and produces this wonderful pure style of white wine. Conditions are perfect for Pecorino to thrive and reach excellent quality levels in Abruzzo. Legend has it that the name comes from “pecoreccia”, the wine of shepherds.
